Crawford County Road Commission

Here at the Crawford County Road Commission we have always worked to reduce costs and to provide the best level of service we can for the revenues we receive. In the past few years we have utilized several cost saving methods including, reducing our work force, reducing routine maintenance on local roads, delaying construction projects (such as Chase Bridge Road), and decreasing equipment upgrades. In spite of these measures, declining revenues  and rising costs of operation and construction have directed the Road Commission to request a millage, which voters passed in November 2008.

Until recently the Crawford County Road Commission has been able to provide county residents with exceptional service at a time when other Road Commissions within the state have been forced to reduce costs over the years. In most counties activities such as dust control and graveling of local roads and local road improvements have become the sole responsibility of the townships while we have been able to continue to offer these services  at no or partial cost.  However, we are now at a point that additional revenues must be generated either via legislature or through local means. Since legislature is unwilling to take on this task, voters approved a local millage that will be earmarked for the sole purpose of upgrading and improving Crawford County’s Primary Road system. Revenues generated by the millage will be used in combination with current State and Federal Funding.

The Primary Road system is in dire need of work. The Board also considers additional cost saving avenues based on the needs of the Road Commission. Cost saving measures in effect are:
